I schedule to remove 2 deprecated functions in 2.0 release

Note:
Removing of API function is only allowed within Major Releases (2.0 / 3.0)...

You should ask Matthew BEFORE doing so within 1.8.
If not allowed, this issue has to be marked as postponed until we are working on 2.0.
